Local Teens Selected For Life Skills & Leadership Academy
Josh and Jay were two of 96 juniors selected from more than 200 chapters of The First Tee. They will play championship golf, participate in life skills activities and career exploration, experience dorm living and meet a wide variety of young people from all around the world. The overall purpose of the Academy is to provide participants with valuable character education and leadership instruction. Congratulations to both!

Galena Student Designated The First Tee Scholar - Class of 2013
Kirsten Ortez has earned the national designation of The First Tee Scholar - Class of 2013. Kirsten, 17, a senior at Galena High School, has been involved with The First Tee since 2008 as a participant, and now serves as a junior coach. The First Tee Scholars Program recognizes participants for exceptional achievement in academics, leadership, character development and chapter and community involvement. With this designation, Kirsten has the opportunity to apply for any educational scholarship programs offered through The First Tee to attend a participating college or university.
Since 2003, the program has designated 521 scholars and funded 100 scholarships worth more than $900,000. More than 20 colleges and universities throughout the United States have partnered with The First Tee to offer merit-based or leadership scholarships.
